What is labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a type of vaginal reconstructive surgery to remove excessive or uneven skin from the vagina.

Female Health Associates of North Texas offers two types of labiaplasty in-office, including:

Labiaplasty minora

Labiaplasty minora is a surgery to reduce or remove excess tissues from the smaller, interior vaginal lips (labia minora).

Labiaplasty majora

Labiaplasty majora is a surgery to reduce or remove enlarged or uneven tissue in the larger, outer lips of the vagina (labia majora).

When should I consider labiaplasty?

You should schedule a labiaplasty consultation at Female Health Associates of North Texas if you have bothersome symptoms caused by excess labial tissue. Symptoms can include pain or irritation when wearing tight clothing or swimsuits.

Excess labia tissue can also cause inflammation or friction during physical activity and interfere with sexual satisfaction.

Candidates for labiaplasty may develop excessive or uneven labial tissue because of:

  • Aging
  • Genetics
  • Pregnancy
  • Childbirth
  • Menopause
  • Changes in weight

Dr. Hantes offers physical exams and can discuss your goals for surgery to determine if labiaplasty is right for you. He can also recommend other vaginal revitalization procedures, including clitoral hood reduction, and complete them at the same time as your labiaplasty.

What happens during labiaplasty?

During your labiaplasty procedure at Female Health Associates of North Texas, Dr. Hantes provides a local anesthetic to keep you comfortable and pain-free.

He uses advanced surgical techniques to remove excess labial tissue without increasing your risk for noticeable scars. Surgery usually takes about an hour to complete, and Dr. Hantes follows a surgical plan he customizes to your unique needs and your desired results.

After your procedure, you can go home to rest. You should limit activities for two to three days to allow your tissues time to heal. You can expect to return to work and your usual routine within three to seven days after a labiaplasty.

You should see the final results of your surgery within 6-12 weeks post-surgery as any swelling or bruising subsides. Many women enjoy labiaplasty results that last for ten years or more.
